Assaqutaq
In the 1960s and 1970s, several small settlements in Greenland were abandoned as people chose to move to the larger towns to find work. Assaqutaq, beautifully situated at the foot of the Nasaasaaq Peak on the south side, is one of these settlements.

Today it is used as a summer camp for the local primary schools and, particularly in June, the place comes alive again as people from Sisimiut go there to fish ammassat (capelin).

On the guided walk through the abandoned settlement, you see the old fish factory, the lovely little cemetery, the house currently used as a summer camp and the pretty old church.

Humpback whales In the past 5-10 years, large numbers of humpback whales have been sighted close to the shores of Sisimiut to feed on ammassat (capelin). This means that we have very good chances of spotting these magnificent animals on this excursion. Also there are chances to view minke and fin whales. te fantastiske naturområde sammen med os.
