Guided snowshoe hike in the snow-capped mountain landscape southeast of Sisimiut

The trip is an obvious opportunity to try your hand at snowshoeing and get close to the unique mountains that surround Sisimiut. The city is known for its huge hinterland which is very easily accessible and a playground for many kinds of both summer and winter activities. Snowshoes are too big and small and require no experience, as there is a guide who will be helpful with the use of snowshoes and poles. The tour starts from Hotel Sisimiut, from where the guide will lead towards the city waterworks which is located right at the end of the famous Arctic Circle Trail. We cross the path and move out into the mountains towards Lake Nilliasup tasia which is one of the two lakes that contribute drinking water to the whole of Sisimiut. The lake is frozen so we can cross it south and continue down towards the sea via a moraine shaped by the enormous force of the ancient melting glacier. In the area live and move a lot of polar foxes and snow hares, which we will try and spot traces of and maybe find one of their caves on the way. Depending on the amount of snow we will be able to see traces of scrub stripes and different soil species on the mountains from glacier movements and the melting of the ice. At the end of the moraine we meet a beautiful sight of ice from the tide and the ripples of the sea which draw the gaze out towards the Strait of David and the very breathtaking view over the archipelago and down towards the polar circle south of Sisimiut. Here we will take a well-deserved break and enjoy the refreshment we have brought and have time to take beautiful pictures before the trip returns. On the way home we will cross the mountain over to another moraine and continue the course towards Sisimiut's cross-country trails and end at the frozen scout lake which is the center of activities in the winter season before we return to Hotel Sisimiut.
